change app dropdown to point to apps module (changes nav template). Important: Plugins using the app-menu hook will no longer be accessible from there and may require re-writing to plug into the system apps page. Also filter apps in items from the language detector to avoid false triggers from the base64 content.

A future "comanche UI" is going to need lists of available building blocks. Some of these are pretty easy to assemble, others are a bit more difficult and will have to go through a registration procedure. This checkin create such a registration procedure for page templates and their associated flavours and their assignable regions. The array itself is extensible since I don't know for sure at this stage what the front-end UI for this feature will ultimately require or even if there ever will be a front-end UI as this community still seems to believe that software writes itself and just magically appears, working perfectly.

Better handling of restricted /channel and /profile permissions. We will show the name, profile photo and a 'connect' button if appropriate on these pages regardless of permissions. A blank page makes it difficult for folks to figure out how to connect and if it is their real life friend 'x' or not. It also matches our overall policy (adopted from Facebook's lessons learned) that the channel name and default profile photo are always visible and can't really be blocked without messing up the usability of the entire network. This also makes sure that a connect button can be found somewhere besides the directory - where the entry could be blocked; and avoid somebody having to figure out the webbie and find the link to "follow" (another related issue).

Often somebody will join the matrix with a dodgy cert and we'll sort that out but their profile photo will remain rainbow man (or the site default). However the photo_date has been updated so we won't try again. This checkin looks for such a failure and leaves the photo_date alone if the photo import failed.

add the message-id to delivery reports. This _could_ allow an enterprising developer to collect the delivery reports for a given post and store them in a DB table so that the sender could track and verify where a message had been sent on a web page and verify the success or failure of those attempts without requiring admin access. (To be fair this would also need an extra flag which hasn't yet been implemented to indicate that a channel created a second delivery chain of the message).

Discover page: when importing public items, alter the item so that it has the characteristics of one that was sourced by the sys channel instead of just being stored under the sys channel uid. This should allow comments and likes to flow upstream if permissions allow and may fix issue #398 . Permission may still be denied by the original poster, but without this the comment/like is treated as a forgery and is blocked from transmission.

Include the entire original item when notifying other channels of deletions as it contains important routing and scope information. Previously we were only sending a couple of critical fields like the message-id, flags, and creation date. The thinking was that it is deleted, let's not resend the deleted contents anywhere. But in order to route this through the same path the original post took we really need the entire original post with all of its baggage attached.

this should be better - "xchan deleted" state on remote sites only follows the xchan_flags and not the channel_pageflags; XCHAN_FLAGS_DELETED should only be set if the channel is to be removed from the entire network. As mentioned in a previous commit, channel_pageflags could be set to PAGE_REMOVED but still leave living clones on other sites.

undo one of yesterday's changes - if a channel was deleted we want to mark the hubloc deleted - but not the xchan. The channel might be alive at another hubloc. We should only mark the xchan deleted when removing a channel from the entire network - e.g. there are no hubs left to service it.

a bit more work towards issue #395 - cleaning up some cases which were going to the url directly and which weren't going through chanview. Also worth noting - mentions in posts do not go through chanview. Perhaps it is time to kill chanview (except we then cannot implemented a "connected" or "connect" button since we don't have any control over the landing page). For the time being I'm just trying to trap as many of the "visit URL" links as possible and sending them to a common place. Then we can figure out how that common place should behave.

use parent_mid in the parent query for enotify instead of of the parent id. This should fix the issue with encrypted content in the notification messages (for locally posted replies). The fix was a bit harder than anticipated because we store the parent id as an int in the notify table so this had to be modified to char storage as well.

Hope I have repaired the channel admin page.

Channel blocking and deleting was copied from user actions. This was not
done to an end. Hope what I do is enough to enable channel blocking and
deleting the correct way.
On deletion all entities that belong to the channel are deleted. But the
channel itself is just marked as deleted. Do not really understand why
it is done this way.

we don't allow forgeries to be received - save some bandwidth by not allowing them to be sent. We do have to figure out how some secondary delivery chains are ending up with posts belonging to the original owner instead of the chain owner, but that's for another day.

contact_block() not being shown to unauthenticated visitors - even if perms allow. Also separate the permissions logic for this function so that we can have a mini-profile widget and a separate contact_block widget instead of always lumping them together. We probably also should move contact_block() outside of include/text.php as it doesn't really belong there. Just not sure where it belongs - perhaps contact_widgets wouold be a good place.

revert the temporary fix for the missing hdr.tpl and add the ability to provide context sensitive help/documentation by passing the current URL path to the help module as $_REQUEST['cmd']. So we could create a special help page for settings/display or whatever. The only issue is whether this should be presented first with a link to the main help page, or if we put a line at the top of the main help page that says "I need help for settings/display". Also edited the help target window name, as "friendika-help" is a bit dated.

I think we should probably refer to the template file as "template" just to avoid confusion. For the moment we'll provide both, since the 'layout' is already in the wild. operation snakebite continued. openid now works for local accounts using the rmagic module and after storing your openid in pconfig. This is just an interesting but trivial (in the bigger scheme of things) side effect of snakebite. The snake hasn't even waken up yet.

implement a forced directory update mode where we unconditionally create a directory sync packet. This is needed to ensure that monthly directory pings are propagated to other directory servers so they can each prove for themselves whether or not an account is alive or dead. We do not trust other directories to provide us information beyond "look at this entry and decide for yourself" as doing otherwise would invite rogue directory manipulations. As this scheduled update occurs on all channels across all servers, we should also pick up refresh messages from all existing channel clones and these should also propagate out to all directory servers using the same mechanism (though perhaps not at the same time).

The scenario is that you're authenticated via magic-auth on a remote hub and you change channels locally. Next time you start an auth exchange we'll look to see if your identity changed and we should start fresh if that's the case, rather than just falling through and keeping the old credentials.

create a new "subdued" CSS class for things that shouldn't be in your face unless you want them and intentionally hover over them. Typically this would be accomplished via an opacity or colour change, but themes are free to use other methods. Also changed the channel_tabs "chatroom" link to use the subdued class if no rooms have been created rather than a count of chatrooms. Themse should probably create a .subdued and .subdued:hover definition because we'll probably take most of the stuff which is now hardwired to use opacity by id and change it to use the class definition instead.

The final piece of the DAV authentication puzzle. Provide a directory view to an un-auth'd person (without asking for a password) by adding a query parameter 'davguest=1'. This is a bit of a hack, but there was no response on the official forum about how to do this correctly so it will have to do. On the downside, if permission is denied, it won't ask for a password - but we're talking about unauthenticated folks who didn't go through magic auth so chances are even if they authenticate, permission will still be denied.

try to reduce the number of simulaneous deliveries of the same post when dealing with owner relays that have more than one channel instance. If things melt down in the next few hours and I'm not available please revert this. I've reviewed a few times and think it's OK, but this part of the delivery code is traditionally touchy.

return to working on red-dav; This is a bit of a slog at the moment and the basic framework isn't even close to working. This does break the working test we did have (which was never connected to the Red backend). Now we're starting to connect Red and DAV together intimately. There will probably be some twists and turns along the way as we get the information we need into all the class objects that need them. But the important part is that the RedDirectory and RedFile classes are loading without throwing white screens and from here we can use logging to figure out what the DAV front end is trying to do and what it is passing to the backend and hopefully figure out what it expects to do with the results. Unless you're a competent developer with a strong background in OOP and are helping develop this code, you should keep it an arm's length away from any production site and don't even think of enabling it. By default it is turned off.

auto-crop imported photos for things and xchans. This results in undistorted images but may result in cropping important parts of the picture. Still this will work well for 95 out of 100 cases. If the width exceeds the height by greater than 1.2 we will remove an equal margin from either side of the photo leaving the center intact. If the height exceeds the width we will chop off the bottom to make it square. This is good for most single person photographs, unless the object of interest is off-center horizontally in a wide photo - or one is trying to emphasize aspects of human anatomy which may be at the bottom of a tall photo.

things can now have (consistent sized) photos - plus I found a couple of issues with duplicate notifications and contact photos not getting an album name (it was crossed with filename). The last one doesn't matter as neither is used, but it was wrong so it has been corrected. Oh and thing photos weren't working at all because the form element name was different than what the module was looking for. But that had never been tested as I was waiting to get the import/resize finished. Next up for that module is display and deletion of things; but the priority is pretty low.

remove prettyphoto from core - this will affect the enhanced photo albums feature on the short term which has been disabled until we figure out how to make the setting per-theme instead of a core option. The library is still available in core (library/prettyphoto) currently but needs to be moved to theme js and loaded/accessed from there [for themes which use it]. Then the library will be removed. It appears that other lightboxes commonly use rel= to group photo albums. So we may provide a generic rel= tag in photo album templates so that the choice of lightbox or album viewer is not only a theme option but could also be accomplished with plugins.

bloody hell... php version incompatibility with openssl - openssl no longer accepts a string as an algorithm. Earlier versions didn't recognise sha256. So we'll look to see if the algorithm constant for sha256 is defined and if so we'll use that instead of the string.

issue #240 - we were using htmlentities instead of htmlspecialchars in several places, and this was a bit greedy in the set of characters which were converted from utf-8 to HTML entities. Also brought mail attachments up to date so they are rendered identically to item attachments.

The affinity tool is not a "traditional" widget. But it is nevertheless a widget. It just makes fewer page layout decisions which are hard-coded. If you want to shrink it down and put it on the sidebar in your theme, go for it.

suggestion widget tweaked to make it comanche capable. Remove old versions of specs that are so obsolete it isn't funny. Zot protocol reference is in red's github wiki, and in the code. We should move the github copy to /doc once it is updated to match the code. There's no point in documenting dfrn in the red code base.

e2ee in comments and a bit of cleanup so not every theme has to define how to insert bbcode, only if they're doing something special (e.g. this is how to implement a javascript plugin :-)), and I got rid of the predefined http:// in the bbcode for urls. You're almost always pasting a url which already has that bit and it just creates an extra step.

allow private mail sender to set an expiration on their messages. Once expired the message is destroyed at both ends (subject to the granularity of the polling interval) and is gone. Officially it takes some form of language independent string like 2013/11/22, but English speakers can use anything that strtotime() understands, like "+30 minutes" or "next Tuesday".

create update record for accounts on directory server itself during profile changes, re-queue failed directory sync packets, fix account_id index in queue creation, be more selective about updating hubloc_connected (only when we're talking to the associated site). But we still need a way to flag dead accounts and these mechanisms won't cut it, because it isn't a requirement that channels communicate with anybody, except for contacting the directory when the account is created. I think we need to make every channel ping the directory once a month. Then we can find those that have not done so (after syncing with other directories). We can't have the directory just flag dead accounts as this would create a way for an anti-social attacker to become a directory server and mark all the accounts dead.

The check for f*cked database (which otherwise sends out zillions of update failed emails) interferes with install. So what else can we do about f*cked databases which open successfully but don't actually read/write data? It would of course be nice if we didn't have to deal with them, but apparently we do. For now we're not doing anything until I can figure out how to take the site offline when it happens without affecting install.

in probe diagnostic - note https failure as diagnostic info - this also changes zot_finger so you can tell it not to fallback. directory sync - this will either work, or it won't work, or it will possibly recurse and blow up the matrix. Hard to say. Do you feel lucky? Well do ya' ... punk? Rule #1 - don't mess with anything unless it's blowing up the matrix. If it doesn't blow up the matrix, but doesn't work, just let it go and let's figure out what it is doing and what it isn't doing.

The flow is as follows:
Once a day go out to all the directory servers besides yourself and grab a list of updates. This happens in the poller. If we've never seen them before add them to the updates table. The poller also looks to see if we're a directory server and have updates that haven't yet been processed. It calls onedirsync.php to process each one. If we contact the channel to update and don't find anything (we're just doing a basic zot_finger), set a ud_last timestamp. If this is set we will only try once a day for seven days. Then we stop trying to update.
This will probably cause a spike the first time through because you haven't seen any updates before, but we spread out the load over your delivery interval.

hopefully this will go over a bit better - check post owner permissions as well as local owner permissions for comments during submission, since the comment was being blindly accepted on the local system due to only checking the profile owner. Also change collections query to include only top-level posts by a member of the collection.

is_commentable() had some major issues when applied to the atrocity known as ConversationObject, hopefully this won't destabilise the network as it's a somewhat major permission tweak related to comments; also add any local clones to allowed_public_recips() as they should always be allowed recipients. Not sure what to do about host permissions in the event of clones. They have more than one host, and it isn't spelled out in the sent message.
...
All of this stuff will make your head hurt.

provide a "safe search" backend and allow for self-censorship using nsfw or adult profile keywords. Eventually the directories will be forced to mark adult profiles and sync this knowledge between them. At the moment there's no way to do an unsafe search, but we really just need a checkbox and pass the value through directory to dirsearch on the back end, and some will want this as a pconfig.

so public_recips and allowed_public_recips is working so much better than before, but was still not quite right. We seem to be getting all the right results for top-level posts now, but comments aren't getting through on channels for which we've allowed them to send us their stream, but not comment on our posts. The reason is we were seeing if they could comment - and we only need to do that if we own the post. If they own the post, we only need to check if they can send us their stream.

assuming this doesn't blow up the internet like the last fix - this is a very old bug that's been reported time and time again and nobody every bothered to debug or even report it somewhere where we could monitor it. It's buried somewhere in my stream, but basically is "things don't work right if you've got 'everybody in my address book' permissions" on "can send me their channel stream and posts". I think this is Michelle's problem and anybody else who has en empty matrix after making lots of connections.

when using the bbcode mimetype a space is just a space. A return is a return. But as opposed to HTML, two spaces are now non-breaking. A tab (assuming you can figure out how to enter one in a text field) is now four non-breaking spaces. This should let us insert code snippets with much more readable indentation.

premium/restricted channel connections implemented, configure at yoursite/channel/nickname - this basically redirects "follow" requests to a premium channel's sell page if it has one configured. You can still click through and create a connection request (introduction), but this provides a means for the channel owner to state their terms. If you don't abide by the terms, you will likely be blocked or the channel deleted. This facility is extensible in a number of ways.

get rid of more variables with dashes in the names - use underscore *except* in CSS. These were probably already here, but if you see any - please keep them out of PHP and MySQL where they sometimes get interpreted as a subtraction operation and are a bugger to find.

most of expire is now ported from friendica, but the protocol bits to push out the delete notifications for the entire batch to all recipients of the original post are not complete and will take quite a bit more work. As a consequence, expire has been completely disabled until it is fully implmented since it could result in completely un-removable posts reminiscent of the infamous "Bonnie Nadri" incident at Diaspora which we do not wish to re-live.

move sitekey creation to the account creation function instead of during channel creation. Channel import bypassed sitekey creation completely. We should do it during install, but it's possible somebody might have to install manually and the sitekey would never get created. This is the best compromise I can come up with. Looks like the doc tree was also updated in this checkin

we've been storing json_encoded structures on disk in several places because it's a lot easier to parse than xml - but OMG do they get mangled - stored as single quoted strings when escaped as if double quoted. We need to use my new function json_decode_plus() wherever we need to parse one of these babies to make sure we get it right. Maybe we should've just used serialize().

private mail is just a little more private now. Not encrypted and the obfuscation is easily reversible, but not casually readable by browsing logfiles or mysql dumps.

This isn't backward compatible - folks will have to upgrade if they can't read their mail.

You will need to set the object owner to the owner of the "thing" and the object title to the name of the "thing". The thing liked can include a photo if desired. We will need a per item comment policy to be able to determine in advance if we have permission to comment on something , and we'll need to send it out with all communications. The current check is not only flawed but also a huge performance hit. Also provide the ability for an item to disable commenting completely - such as for a webpage or wherever you want to prevent comments on one item, without requiring a change to your entire permission scheme. All of this is only partially implemented at the moment but we need the structures in place on several sites in order to finish it without breaking everything.

hopefully this won't screw up everything - if it does, revert. Otherwise this should work at delivery time to check tag deliveries and bounce the message before it's stored if the channel doesn't allow you to post and you aren't allowed to tag deliver either. Previously this was handled after the post was already stored so you needed posting permission as well as tag deliver permission to get past the checks.

add support for zmg bbcode tag (img with class=zrl) which will eventually get turned into a zid link when rendered for display. TODO - turn photo items and photos uploaded into posts into zmg, then run all incoming bbcode posts through a filter to see if there's a photo from a known hubloc (with an http(s): src attr - not data:) and if so turn it into a zmg. Then fix the zidify functions to look for class="zrl" and we're done.

wrapper function to create arbitrary activities (e.g. for plugins and apps) with a minimal amount of fuss, though the amount of fuss could increase significantly depending on the nature of the activity. For a simple wall post, just set the $arr['body'] to the desired text and we'll do the rest. If the activity requires special verbs, objects or targets, these will all need to be constructed.

rename 'uri' (and parent_uri) to 'mid' (and parent_mid) since these no longer remotely resemble uri's and are actually message_id's. This change is potentially destabilising because it touches a lot of code and structure. But it has to get done and there's no better time than the present.

just tinkering and trying a few things - don't get upset. It can all be reverted it it sucks. Freedom's just another word for "nothin' left to lose" and I'm not sure it's possible to create a UI that's hated more than Friendica. dang - this is almost testable. Still have to figure out the best way to deal with the profile photo. Otherwise if you're really brave you could give it a go and see what happens. The worst that could happen is that it destroys the universe. Not a big deal. More likely you could end up with a bunch of imported things that have to be cleaned up. Less likely but entirely possible is that nothing useful will happen at all and it'll white screen.

magic auth - it's mostly done or at least all the code bits are written and it looks in theory to be pretty secure and it doesn't white screen. Getting it to actually work(?), well we won't know how hard that will be until we get it on a couple of systems and try it. Magic auth on one box is a no-op because you're already authenticated.
